Jay and Captain Hopper were great. Jay was a great teacher, answered all our questions, and interacted well with all my boys. They both were very safety conscious which, as a mom, I really appreciate. We were able to get our tunas on the boat before the sharks got then and have enjoyed eating the best yellow fin tuna the last couple days! Thank you Jay and Captain Hopper! I highly recommend this crew!
We had an amazing fish catch on our tour with Grand Slam. The captain and crew knew what they were doing, for sure, and we pulled in a huge catch including a 120 lb. marlin, probably 20 mahi mahi and 3 tuna. That part of the trip was awesome and the reason for the 5 stars. On the flip side, the water was incredibly rough. Almost everyone in our group got sick, one of us being extremely sick. When we asked the captain and crew to go back to, they were less than responsive to the idea. We actually came back an hour later than the 8 hour tour we booked. One of our group was very dehydrated and in bad shape from the seasickness throughout the day. Also, the captain said he had a "fish policy" that our group only gets 50 lbs. of fish and he gets all the rest. We were 6 people in our group and paid almost $3k for the trip and caught A LOT of fish. His "fish policy" was a bit ridiculous and never spelled out anywhere in detail (on his site it said we share our catch with the crew, no specifics). He did concede and gave us an additional 20 lbs or so after being confronted about it. He was obviously very concerned about selling the fish we caught to make more profit. That left a bad taste in my mouth.
Hopper and Jay were amazing! From start to finish they are on their A game! Cooler loaded with ice, a quick stop a little ways out for fresh bait, and then out to catch the monsters. They don't stop til they find the honeyhole of the day. Taking some serious freshwater fisherman out and making it the fishing trip of a lifetime is a tall order and they overfilled it! It was the best experience and they set the bar high and have us looking at dates to come back and we would pick them over and over, no need to look elsewhere! They made our trip and memories that will last a lifetime. LEGENDARY DAY!

To start, I spent many hours researching charter captains due to hearing that Oahu can be tough fishing conditions. I settled on Grand Slam because the vessel was large so I knew it would be comfortable in challenging seas and I noticed the Capt had a long history of success in the fishing industry, including tournaments! The highlights…… Upon booking with grand slam, the Capt was extremely responsive to ALL my emails with questions. The boat is immaculate. Everything is white glove clean! The gear is the best that money can buy. The bait was all extremely fresh and prerigged so as soon as we left the harbor, we were FISHING. Most importantly, the 1st mate was the best 1st mate I have ever had the pleasure of fishing with. I have fish all over North America and have NEVER seen a mate work as hard as he did. He never stopped moving and was set on making sure we were connecting with fish. All in all this was one of the best charter experiences I have ever had. I am happy because next time I’m on Oahu there is only one boat and Capt I need to call for a booking. Thanks Capt for a trip of a lifetime!!!
Top notch captain and crew. I highly recommend booking this boat. It’s larger and more comfortable than other boats in that harbor. We booked a half day. The first couple of hours was a little slow and the captain kept us out a little longer. He didn’t want us going home empty handed and it paid off. We ended up catching 2 large Mahi and a wahoo. We couldn’t have been more pleased. Look no further definitely book this boat.

The boat and crew were top notch! After seeing several other boats in the harbor, this was by far the best kept and well maintained boat. The crew was very informative and worked hard to ensure we had a great time and caught as many fish as possible. I would absolutely recommend this fishing trip to anyone looking in the North Short of Oahu area. We will be going out again on our next trip!!!
Captain Hopper and Jay are the best there are for fishing on Oahu! If you want to go fishing and you are on Oahu, get on the Grand Slam Hawai’i on the North Shore. They are extremely proactive in finding fish and rigging the lines to catch them. While no one can guarantee you fish, Hopper and Jay do everything they can. And they fish until the very end of the day! We caught 4 Mahi Mahi!! Thank you Hopper and Jay!! Chris El Paso, TX, March 11, 2024

This was the first time out on the open water for my wife and kids. We were scheduled for a full day of fishing, but I had to ask Hopper to cut it short around 10 am because the wife and all 3 kids were seasick. I wasnt feeling my best, but I was down to rough it out to catch some fish. The others were only seeing the side of the boat so we cut it short. Jay grabbed a few baitfish right after we got out and then we began trolling. After a while we hooked into a decent wahoo which I let my son pull in. Right before we went back to shore, we brought in another one that seemed a little bigger. I pulled that one in and we tied Jay's record of 2 wahoo in a day. Sorry we couldnt make it 3. The boat was great and Hopper trolled us up and down the coast line searching for fish. Jay was all over the place baiting lines and keeping everything operational. He did an awesome job and I wish that I had some more cash on me to tip him more.

My son, who had never fished saltwater, my brother, and I had a great time with Hopper and Jay. We doubled up on two mahi to start the morning, and then hit a school and hooked up four at once. From then on it was steady hooks and lands. From reading the reviews, it is clear that Captain Hopper knows what he’s doing. He does indeed. The lady that left the review from 09-Dec-2025 is hilarious. Sounds like her crew had an epic trip. I hope their fish feast was as great as the catching experience. We couldn’t recommend Grand Slam more adamantly.

We had so much fun catching tuna! Everyone caught one! The captain and crew were amazing. They made sure we had a great time

The captain and Jay were excellent. They were patient with our kids and we all caught amazing fish. One of the highlights of our Hawaii trip. We will definitely be back.
