Lock it Down Sportfishing
Lock it Down Sportfishing invites you to hop aboard to see what the Tampa Bay Area has to offer. Whether you are an experienced angler looking for a trophy, a beginner looking to learn, or just want a nice day on the water with your family, Captain Hunter will cater to your needs.
Capt. Hunter's custom 23' Dorado will accommodate up to 4 anglers and she's loaded with the latest electronics, making your experience as safe and comfortable as possible.
Each trip is based around what you want to catch and your experience level. Capt. Hunter has spent the past ten years fishing for Snook, Redfish, and Trout, which are plentiful throughout the inshore waters of Tampa Bay. Capt. Hunter's favorite species, however, is the Tarpon. Throughout the spring and summer months, Tarpon migrate up and down Florida's Gulf Coast and spend a large amount of time in Tampa Bay. These 'Silver kings' can be caught in a variety of ways including sight fishing, live baiting, and chunking. Regardless of method, they always provide an incredible fight and spectacular displays of athleticism. If you're up for a real adventure, ask about the night trips where Capt. Hunter will help you target these giant gamefish with artificial lures or live bait.
During the right times of year, The Bay is also loaded with Grouper, Snapper, and Cobia if you are looking to go home with some dinner after a fight with a true trophy. Kingfish can also provide excellent fights and make great smoked fish dip, a local specialty. This is truly one of the most diverse fisheries in the country.
Tackle will always be provided and includes high quality Penn and Shimano gear. On each trip, anglers should bring their own snacks and drinks but water will be provided. Proper sun protection is highly recommended. At the end of your trip, the Captain will filet and bag your catch.
Charters are available year round so come out and get ready for an awesome day on the water with Lock it Down Sportfishing!

Cpt Hunter is amazing. He knows these waters well and gets even the most inexperienced fishermen, that’s us, on to fish and land them. We hook into 5 tarpon that were well over 100lbs and one pushing 200. We landed 3 of the 5 and that was just a half day. Hunter is kind, enthusiastic, helpful and makes the fishing experience great for all of us that included kids and adults. We cannot say enough good and positive things in this review. Amazing trip!!!
I fished with Hunter 4 hrs (A.M.) near shore and then 6 hrs inshore two days later, and was extremely pleased with the experience. This was my first saltwater fishing after years of freshwater angling. I learned a lot and we caught a good number and variety of fish, including mackerel, bonita, grouper, snook, spotted trout, redfish, and others. I intend to return to go for tarpon in season, and it will definitely be with Cap. Hunter and Lock It Down. It was awesome fun. Very highly recommended!
Captain Hunter was timely and well prepared for our day on the fish. Fish were a little slow to bite, but he put us right on top of some big schools of snook and black drum. Captain Hunter did a great job of shuddering rigs, tactics and locations to land us on the schools. We caught some beautiful snook and one speckled trout before the birds and dolphins scared the fish. Captain Hunter was attentive, knowledgeable and easy going. I would definitely go fishing with Captain Hunter again!
The captain put us on fish and was very knowledgeable about local spots. It was easy to have a good time while being attended to so well. Great boat, easy ride, very safe operation. We will be repeat customers

Captain Hunter did a great job with us today…. Variety of fishing spots and fishing styles. All produced. We had a great time! His friendly approach and professional skills combined for an excellent experience.

We had a great time with Captain Hunter. Bite was a little slow early and the dolphins had their way with our fish. Hunter pressed on and put us on the fish! He worked hard all day to keep us catching fish. Highly recommend. We found a restaurant to cook our catch, and the mangrove snapper were so delicious! We will book with Hunter again when we are back in the area.
Had a great morning fishing with Captain Hunter. He was great with my two young boys and put us on a ton of fish. Would highly recommend booking a trip with Captain Hunter!
The captain was very friendly and answered all our questions when we got on his boat. We told him we wanted to catch snook and grouper and he brought us to a spot where we were catching snook within 10 minutes of us getting there. Even my mom caught some snook with very little prior experience to fishing once we caught enough snook we went out for grouper and even though the conditions for grouper were not the best he still got us on a good amount of gags then on the way back we stopped at one other location and we doubled up on some huge jacks and then caught some more snook and jacks. I hooked something huge but it snapped my line after a bit. Overall I would say this was the best charter I’ve ever been on and would recommend it to anyone who wants to catch alot of nice fish.

Had an awesome day out on the water with Capt. Hunter! He helped me catch my first tarpon! Hunter was extremely knowledgeable about the Bay Area. He’s was very accommodating and made us feel free to design the trip however we wanted. He had light/heavy set ups pre-rigged and all the live/chunk bait we needed before we met at the dock. We started targeting snapper to bring some dinner home then moved onto tarpon; had great success at both. Hunter was prepared, knew what fish were active/where to find them, and friendly. I honestly feel that I left knowing more about angling on this trip. To sum it up, if you and a couple buddies want a laid back environment and productive day on the water, I couldn’t recommend Lock It Down Sport Fishing with Capt. Hunter any higher.
This guy did an absolutely amazing job and is for sure the #1 I have ever been on the water with. We consecutively caught fish all day, even the ones we had to work for. High spirits and laughs a plenty, with a keen knowledge of the trade and being able to get guys on the fish!!
I am a 70 year old Florida local and have been on the water since I was 9. My friend of nearly 50 years was in town from Lake Tahoe and I wanted him to catch fish. I picked Captain Hunter Wilcox because he works the Skyway area and that area presents the opportunity for the greatest variety of fish to be caught in Pinellas County. We caught fish at nearly ever stop. Topped it off by my friend catching a Tournament worthy 40 pound to 50 pound King Mackerel that we were able to take pictures of and release healthy. It was everything you could ask for in a charter and Captain Hunter Wilcox worked hard to make it that way. Great Captain, terrific fishing trip!
