Captain Luis was wonderful. He went the extra mile to make sure we were on the fish so we could catch as mush as possible on our trip. He was informative, answered our questions and would teach us more about the environment, fishing conditions and reasoning behind the spots he chose. He was attentive to us, not just as fishermen, but also as guests on his boat. My impression was the Captain paid very close attention to our comfort in all aspects of our trip. The excitement he showed when we had a fish on or saw a fish on the water was contagious. It was obvious how much he enjoys taking out his charters and being on the water. We had such a great time, my husband was hoping to book with him again the very next morning. We both would highly recommend booking with Grillofishing Charters. we are looking forward to the opportunity to book with Captain Luis the next time we are in Puerto Rico.
Super easy going. Our captain Luis really was attentive to the lines very novice friendly if you're new to fishing. We lost two monsters not our guides fault. Without catching any fish in our two hours I would still go again. I would maybe take a Dramamine next time it wasn't bad at all but when your focusing on your pole tip so hard it makes you a little sea sick. The views of the fort and of the colorful houses made this memorable.
We had an incredible fishing trip in San Juan, Puerto Rico! From the moment we stepped aboard, the captain was professional, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. He made sure everyone felt comfortable and took the time to explain the fishing techniques and local waters. The scenery was absolutely beautiful, and the excitement of reeling in fish made the experience unforgettable. The captain worked hard to put us on the fish and were always attentive, helping whenever needed while keeping the atmosphere fun and relaxed. Whether you're an experienced angler or trying fishing for the first time, this trip is a must-do in Puerto Rico. The boat was clean, well-maintained, and equipped with everything we needed for a great day on the water. This was one of the highlights of our vacation, and we would book again without hesitation. Highly recommended for anyone visiting San Juan and looking for an authentic, exciting, and memorable fishing adventure!
Captain Luis was so friendly and informative during our trip. He taught us how to properly hold the rod and how to reel in a way that would not leave us too tired. It was a slow start (not his fault at all, thatβs the nature of fishing), but he worked so hard to make sure we got on some fish. We caught a grouper, multiple snappers, and multiple barracudas. My son caught two very large barracudas and it left him with an enormous smile on his face. This is something he/ I will never ever forget. It was an incredible experience and created memories that will last a lifetime. Truly so thankful for this opportunity, and it wasnβt possible without captain luis. Highly recommend him to everybody!!
Captain Luis is fantastic! shared a lot of information regarding the island. We drove 5 miles out, and he put us right on the fish (Mahi Mahi, Barracuda and Hogfish) The views from the island were excellent. He was stocked with pop/soda, water and beer, along with some chips to eat. The boat was clean and organized. it was very easy get to the poles. we would certainly book with Captain Luis again!
We started out trolling for tuna, after about 45 minutes of nothing, Luis switched gears and we drift fished for Spanish Mackerel. We slayed it. Every couple of minutes we had a good fight and landed a decent fish. One of the boys got seasick in the rolling swell and the other started to turn green so we headed inshore to flat water looking for Tarpon. Luis moved the boat to several different spots but didnβt get anything. It wasnβt for lack of trying though. Luis really tried to get us on the fish. It wasnβt a pretty great trip!

OUR DAY WAS PERFECT! Luis and his mate Danny were amazing. Absolutely book your trip with them no matter what fish youβre going for!! I messaged a week out to ask about best day based in weather and Luis was responsive and flexible. On the boat they were fun, played good music, chatted about catches, pets, sightseeing and good local spots to hike and check out cool caves. My nephew just turned 16 and he caught a Mahi Mahi once before and was dyin to get another because βit was the best fish he ever ateβ. Any captain said the season is near its end but Luis and Danny know what theyβre doing. they use the birds, seaweed, and floating wood to find the flying fish which hopefully leads to Mahi Mahi. We got the line bit off 3 times by barracuda and then brought one on board for a pic. The next two hours were slow but still fun to enjoy the cruise. Then - BOOM! We hit hard! Four Mahi Mahi on board in a matter of 15 minutes!!! It was exhilarating!!! For photos Luis positioned us for some cool pics on the boat on our way out. On the way back we did the same with our haul in hand. Luis had a GoPro and took some cool under water photos and pics of the Mahi Mahi jumping in the air before bringing on board. He sent me these a bit after we finished. Back on the dock we met up with Kabela the dock kitty and her son that we dubbed Oreo for his black and white colors. They were the sweetest cats patiently waiting for scraps. We also fed the Mahi Mahi skin to some good sized Tarpons which was fun to watch. Top it all off, they pulled out soy and wasabi and cut out some meat near the bones for instant sashimi! It was DELICIOUS! Back at our Airbnb we cooked up a filet (one for 3 people) and enjoyed an amazing dinner. We have just enough fish for us to enjoy the rest of the trip with the 3 fish we took (gave one to Luis and his dad that met us on the dock). CHOOSE LUIS FOR YOUR TRIP!

Capt took us through the bay to the canals in search of tarpon. We anchored near the mangroves and could see the swirling near the boat teasing us. We finally hooked into a smaller one, about 2 feet in length. My son had a blast reeling him in. We hung around a bit longer and hooked into a monster! Once it took the bait the reel started screaming as it took line. My son was struggled for a good fifteen minutes before landing it along side the boat with the Captainβs help. It was close to 4 foot long and Capt estimated it weighed between 50-60 lbs as he had 2 hands on it mouth lifting it up along side the boat! So much fun!!

Trip was great - long review so please read it through. When you book a trip, there are things the crew can control - the weather is not one of them. We both independently checked weather reports and the wind was not supposed to be a factor - unfortunately it was. This resulted in a longer ride out to rough waters where we were prepared to go "popping" for pelagics. We were forced to go closer to shore for trolling. Even this was a little difficult with the winds and no boats were catching fish. That didn't stop Luis and his mate Danny from working their tails off, putting multiple lines in the water for us, and eventually getting us a beautiful Mahi which resulted in some fresh sashimi prepared by the mate on shore, lunch prepared at the restaurant at the marina, and an additional few portions to bring home in our cooler. I'd recommend this boat for 2 anglers looking to have a fun time in San Juan. First off, you're in the harbor which is just beautiful and you get the seaside view of del Morro which is priceless. Then the experience of bringing in fish in these beautiful waters was something I won't soon forget. Thank you for a great trip guys!
I initially booked an off shore trip for my son's birthday. The wind was high the whole week of our trip, making off shore unsafe, but Luis kept in contact with me and gave me a heads-up a few days before. We wanted to keep our booking and change it to in-shore due to the weather. It was still high winds but Luis really worked hard at making it the best experience and value. My kids loved him and they have amazing memories and first-time experience. Great communication, flexible options, easy to work with, hard worker, great value.

Caught 5 mahi mahi and 1 blue fin tuna on a 1/2 day trip. Captain Luis had all the equipment set and provided great instructions on where to be in the boat and how to properly use all equipment to best retrieve the fish. Captain Luis takes his fishing seriously and puts his heart into it. He also knows the local waters well. I highly recommend his business Grillofishing Charters.
