These waters are home to Speckled Trout, Black Drum, Redfish, and more if conditions allow.
On the day of your trip you're likely to drift and bottom fish using light tackle.
Planning a family adventure? Kids are absolutely welcome! Children must wear life vests, so find out if the appropriate size is available on board. Feel free to bring your own snacks to stay fueled throughout your trip!
You'll be fishing aboard a 24' Bay boat with space for 5 passengers. It has all the essentials no fishing machine can run without.
You'll find rods, reels, and tackle waiting for you, along with lures. Live bait is available, but it's good to ask about this so you know if you'll be catching it yourself.
Before coming aboard, it may be necessary to buy a local fishing license for everyone in your group. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species may be off limits or require a special tag, so make sure you know what to expect.
You can't go wrong when you bring sunglasses, a hat, sunblock (non-spray), and bottled water. There will be some drinks on offer, but let the captain know if you wish to bring your own. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but try to avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.
Give yourself something to look forward to and book a trip with James Regini Guide Service!

James was incredibly chill, organized, patient, and just genuinely easy to spend the morning with. Everything was clean, ready to go, and well thought out from start to finish. You can tell he knows his stuff, but just as importantly, he knows how to make the day enjoyable. No stress, no rushing, just a really good morning on the water with someone who clearly takes pride in what he does. Would absolutely book with him again and recommend him to anyone looking for a great fishing trip!
If you’re looking for a fishing guide that truly knows what he’s doing, this is your guy. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the fish we were targeting and knew the exact spots and bait to use to put us on fish all day. On top of that, he was extremely nice, humble, and easy to spend the day with. He went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience from start to finish. Highly recommend and will absolutely book with him again!
Captain James was great! He knows his way around the bay and put us on the bite. We caught our limit of reds and a couple specs too. I recommend Captain James to anyone that wants to catch fish around Redfish Bay.
We went out with pretty high winds, but the Captain knew exactly where to go and what to do. Got some nice reds, and caught our limit of black drum. Super nice guy, too. Highly recommend!!
We had the pleasure of sharing the water with a captain who was both incredibly knowledgeable about how to put us on fish and who couldn’t have been more pleasant to be around. We would recommend him to anyone looking to catch some fish, have a great time doing so, and learning a little bit about how to be better fisherman along the way.
Captain James did an awesome job today, he took the time and patience to show my grandson and my younger son how to watch and beware of how the fish take the bait etc. we all had a great day and caught lots of fish. They cleaned what we caught and we had a big fish fry that night. Amazing day, can’t wait till next year.
James was great with my 5 yo boy. Great attitude and experience as a Capt. He put us on the fish from the very beginning of the trip and througout the morning. He has good knowledge of the tides/fish patterns and behaviors to know where to look next. Overall great day on the bay. Definitely recommend for groups with smaller kids.
We really enjoyed Captain James! He was great with our kids and made sure to teach my son some new things about fishing. It was a tough day of fishing and he worked really hard to make sure we caught fish and had a great experience! We will would highly recommend him and would book with him again for sure.
great time on the water! we took some of our catch to Virginia's to BYOF for us and had a feast afterwards.
Awesome trip all the way around. Limited on reds and drum and back at the dock by 11am. James was super knowledgeable and great guy!

The guide was able to put us on fish, despite a giant monsoon over the prior weekend. He suggested that we focus on Redfish over opportunistic Trout and his advice was sound. We caught plenty of fish, however none were keepers by about 1/2 or less inches. So it was catch and release. It was still plenty of fun, albeit short on protein. You could tell he was pulling out the stops to get us onto some keepers. A good time was had, and we would charter again (while praying for better weather karma).

On November 15th and 16th, 2025, my brother, my nephew, and I spent two fantastic half-days on the water with Captain James and I can say without hesitation it was the best fishing experience we’ve had in Port A. We’ve fished down there before, with different guides, but this was on a whole different level. From the moment I booked the trip, I could tell Captain James runs a tight, professional operation. His communication was clear, his instructions were easy to follow, and he had everything lined up before we even showed up. His boat is set up perfectly for anglers, plenty of space, clean, organized, and optimized for fishing. You can tell he’s put real thought into how to make the day run smoothly. Even with all three of us up on the bow, all with fish on at the same time, Captain James kept the whole thing running like a well-oiled machine. We booked morning half-day trips both days. The directions he sent took us straight to the launch without a single hiccup. Captain James was already there when we pulled up, boat in the water, gear ready, and you could tell he’d been there early making sure everything was perfect. Other guides sometimes have to run around grabbing bait or ice or “just one more thing,” but not him. We stepped onto the boat and immediately pushed off. No wasted time. No chaos. Just fishing. The ride out was not that far, and we were on fish almost instantly. On Day one we limited out on black drum, caught six reds, and even picked up a trout. Every time we’d reset, it felt like someone was hooked up again. It was nonstop action, but still laid-back and fun. No stress, no pressure, just a really solid day on the water. Day two somehow Captain James managed to top it. Same early start, same simple arrival, and once again, Captain James was ready for us. We headed straight out and immediately found black drum. Many that were bigger than some we caught the day before. We limited out on black drum again, brought in three more reds and another trout, There were stretches where the bite on the drum was so steady we couldn’t believe it. It’s rare to have two days back-to-back where the fishing is that consistent, but Captain James delivered. What really stands out to me, beyond what was in the box, is Captain James himself. He’s a great guy. He’s friendly, patient, and clearly passionate about what he does. You never feel rushed, you never feel like you’re just another booking, and he doesn’t phone anything in. He genuinely wants you to have a great day, and it shows in every part of the experience. His knowledge is obvious, but his preparation and attitude are what make the trip special. When I say this was the best experience we’ve had in Port A, I mean it. The fishing was incredible, the boat was top-notch, the preparation was flawless, and the whole feel of the trip was just right. If you’re thinking about booking a fishing guide in Port Aransas, stop looking and call Captain James. When we plan our next trip, it will be around his availability because after fishing with him, we’re not interested in going with anyone else.
We did a four hour bay trip with Capt James and it didnt dissapoint. We caught 7 reds, couple of trout and an ugly toadfish! Capt James knows what to do. Even though we only got two keepers, Capt James wasnt satisfied and gave us extra time to try to find more. His boat is fun and a great ride across the bay. Highley recommend this trip and Capt James was great with my 13 yr old son teaching him the ropes.
