Atrapasueños Sportfishing Costa Rica
Make some memories in Quepos and go fishing with Atrapasueños Sportfishing. Having logged many hours on these tides, Captain Butch knows them forwards and back.
Depending on the time of year, you might hook into Mahi Mahi, Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, Roosterfish, Sailfish, Cubera Snapper, Snook, Yellowfin Tuna, and anything else that bites. You'll target your catch by spinning, popping, trolling, drifting, jigging, bottom fishing, or maybe something more specialized in this area. Capt. Butch also offers fly fishing, but you may need to bring your own fly gear.
If you're traveling with the family, you will be glad to know that kids are welcome aboard! Children must wear life vests, so find out if the appropriate size is available on board.
Your fishing machine for the day is a 30' offshore sport fishing vessel that can carry up to 5 passengers. It has outriggers and all the essentials. There's a toilet on board for your convenience. Capt. Butch will provide rods and reels for you, as well as lures. Live bait is on offer, but you should ask the captain whether you'll be catching it yourself.
Trips are run with the help of a First Mate. Mates work hard to make your trip count, so a 10–20% tip is customary.
You will need to get a local fishing license before the trip. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species might be protected or require a tag to keep them, so make sure you know what to expect.
Some essentials to bring are sunglasses, and sunscreen (non-spray). Drinks will be available for you. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but you should avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles. There will be food and some light snacks provided on board.

We recommend Christian and Caption Butch for your fishing trip! We caught 2 tuna and a big Mahi Mahi. Multiple methods were used and we also noticed that Christian and Butch were a great team together- communicating easefully. The bathroom on boat was clean and helpful for us- a family of 4. The lunch was delicious. We didnt get to have our afternoon snack- likely because we were all enthralled with the excellent filleting skills of Christian. They helped us ensure we could bring all our fish back to the states! Overall- a great 9 hours on the water. Will return!
We couldn't recommend Gypsy Girl more! Butch and Christian (and Tater) were beyond accomodating on our full day trip. We've fished our whole lives but never caught sailfish, and even though the bite was slower for February, Butch put us each on one and it was incredible! The boat is beautiful, crew was awesome, lunch was delicious, and I've got a mount of my fish on the way. Overall I'd rate them 10 stars if I could! We'll absolutely book with Butch next time we're here! Thanks again guys! 🤗
Captain Butch got us on the fish and kept us there. We caught 3 sailfish but of course released them all. A bonus were the two mahi-mahi that we did keep and had for dinner. Christian was friendly and professional. He was more upset than we were when a sailfish threw its hook early on in the trip! Couldn’t ask for a better captain and mate.

I cannot recommend Captain Butch and Christian highly enough. It was a bit slow in the morning due to the moon cycle the previous evening, but things heated up right when Butch predicted they would. He and Christian put us on sailfish and mahi. It was a first for both of my boys and a memory of a lifetime for them. Thank you both very much.
Best days fishing i ever had captin Butch and Christian worked there butts of to catch fish stunning 130lb sailfish Christian kept the boat pristine all day highly recommend the gipsy girl

We went out with Butch and had a great time. The Gypsy Girl was well maintained and you can tell Butch takes pride in his boat. Butch kept us well informed and met us right where he said he would. We had our first sailfish landed by 930, and caught several more. Overall we were pleased with our trip…and the first mate was awesome too!!

Group of 5 Navy Veterans on a reunion trip. Capt Butch had us on fish right from the start. We had 4 sails 2 Tuna and one Mahi. Caught fish all day long. The mate Cristian was on point all day as well. Plenty if drinks and food as well. Recommend this Boat and crew for your next offshore adventure.
Butch and Christian are outstanding. The Gypsy Girl is a very clean and capable vessel. We were after sailfish, and the crew made it happen for us. The food on the boat was suprisingly good as well. I would highly recommend Atrapasueños to anyone looking for a great day on the water.
A totally new experience for me! Forever memories made! These guys worked their tails off for us. The Gypsy Girl is a beautiful, comfortable boat and s total pleasure to spend a day on the water in. Highly recommended!!!
