716 Sportfishing is here to help you experience the stunning waters of Olcott. Having logged many hours on these tides, Captain Matt can tell you all about the local fishery.
This charter targets King Salmon as they make their way up the rivers and streams to spawn. Unlike the charter's other larger boat, you will not troll on these excursions. This is a hands-on lighter tackle way to catch the big mature Salmon. You will be drift fishing and/or casting lures (all provided) depending on conditions. These charters will only take place in late September through the end of October.
Your day begins aboard an 18' Tracker aluminum fishing boat with space for 3 passengers. It has everything you need for a productive day on the water. Rods, reels, and tackle are included, along with lures. Live bait is on offer, but it's good to ask about this so you know if you'll be catching it yourself.
You might need to get a local fishing license before the trip. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species may be off-limits or require a special tag, so make sure you know what to expect. It's always wise to bring sunglasses, sunblock (non-spray), and bottled water. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, just avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.

If you are looking for an absolute powerhouse of a charter captain on Lake Ontario, Captain Josh is your guy. We recently booked a charter with him chasing mature King salmon, and the experience completely exceeded expectations. Fishing can test your patience, and after hours of grinding without a strike, most captains might start dialing it in. Not Josh. He worked tirelessly—constantly resetting our lines, fine-tuning the gear setup, and actively scanning and tracking the water until he put us right on top of the fish. His relentless work ethic paid off in a massive way when we hooked into and successfully landed two huge, trophy-sized Chinooks. Beyond his skill and determination, he made the whole day on the water a blast. He’s engaging, fun to hang out with, and brings an energy that keeps the boat upbeat even during the tough lulls. Whether you're after a personal best or a freezer full of top-tier Lake Ontario salmon, Captain Josh will get it done and help you bring home the trophies. We give him our highest possible rating and recommend him to everyone—novices and seasoned anglers alike!
