Turangi offers outstanding fishing opportunities, and Hooked on Adventure is ready to help you make the most of them. With Captain Davey at the helm, you'll benefit from years of experience and in-depth local knowledge.

These waters are well known for Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout (Steelhead), and other sought-after species. With favorable conditions, anglers often find success early in the trip. Fishing techniques may include trolling, jigging, or other specialized methods depending on the conditions. Captain Davey also offers fly fishing; guests can bring their own fly-fishing equipment. For those seeking a more adventurous experience, bowfishing is also available - guests must bring their own bows and gear.

Hooked on Adventure is a family-friendly charter service and welcomes anglers of all ages. Guests are encouraged to confirm the availability of child-sized life vests in advance or bring their own if necessary. You are welcome to bring personal snacks to stay energized throughout the trip.

Your day begins aboard a 21-foot Sea Ray center console vessel with space for up to four passengers. The boat is fully equipped with downriggers and all essential fishing equipment to ensure a productive and comfortable experience.

Captain Davey provides all rods, reels, and lures. Prior to departure, all guests will be required to purchase a local fishing license, which is available online. Certain species may be restricted or require special tags, so it's important to confirm current regulations in advance.

Guests are encouraged to bring sunglasses, non-spray sunscreen, and bottled water. Some beverages are provided, and you may bring your own with prior notice to the captain. Alcohol is not permitted on board. Lunch is included—please reach out in advance to discuss details or any dietary requirements.

    Amazing experience

Half Day Trip on October 21, 2026 • 3 adults

Davey was a friendly and knowledgeable captain. We got out to our fishing spot and ended up catching at least two fish each; far too many for us to eat, so we only kept three. His gear made fishing easy and we were able to have a good chat while we fished. I would definitely recommend him to anyone wanting a comfy day out on the lake.

Half Day Trip on April 4, 2026 • 2 adults

Davywas a great captain, very pleasant to spend a day on the water with. He knew the lake and how to catch the fish for the conditions and time of year, would definitely recommend.

My two novice fisher boys, each caught their first fish.

    Half Day Trip on October 7, 2026 • 3 adults • 2 children

Trout beware, a great day out, I am sure more will follow, with Davey an exceedingly competent and knowledgeable skipper in his 6m long open fishing boat. Thanks for a fabulous and successful trip on Lake Taupo.
