Hang Zen Surf Sea
Ready to catch some fish in Oceanside? Hang Zen Surf Sea is your ticket! Your guide for the day is Captain Scott, so you'll benefit from their professional experience.
Depending on the time of year, you might hook into White Bass, Skipjack, Calico Bass, California Sheephead, California Corbina, Mahi Mahi, Halibut, Lingcod, Rockfish, Mako Shark, Yellowtail Amberjack, Yellowfin Tuna, and anything else that bites. Depending on the species you’re after, you may find yourself trolling, or maybe something more specialized in this area. For the more adventurous among you, there's spearfishing.
Trips with Hang Zen Surf Sea are open to the whole family, so the whole family can come and unplug for the day! If you don't have a child-sized life vest of your own, be sure to ask if there's one on board. And, you can't go wrong with snacks so that nobody gets grumpy on an empty belly!
You'll be casting lines from a 24' Grady-White sportfishing with room for 4 passengers. It has all the essentials. Capt. Scott will supply rods and reels for you, as well as lures. Live bait is available, but you should ask the captain whether you'll be catching it yourself.
Trips are run with the help of a First Mate. Mates work hard to make your trip count, so a 10–20% tip is customary.
You might need to buy a local fishing license before the trip. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species might be protected or require a tag to keep them, so make sure you know what to expect.
It's never a bad idea to bring sunglasses, and sunscreen (non-spray). There will be some drinks on offer, but let the captain know if you wish to bring your own. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, just avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.
Hang Zen Surf Sea will make it easy for you to go fishing in Oceanside. So, how about booking that trip?

Captain Scott and Kelly were fantastic: knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and genuinely fun to spend the morning with. We caught lots of fish, learned a ton about our local ocean, and felt like we were in great hands the entire time. Most importantly, they gave our 7-year-old daughter an incredible first experience fishing on the ocean. She came home so proud of everything she accomplished and is already talking about our next trip…and going farther out to catch some of the big guys next time! As her parents, seeing her leave feeling that happy, confident, and excited meant so much to us. We had an absolute blast and will definitely be back.
As a life long fisherman whose traveled the world fishing to say I have high expectations for sport fishing captains is an understatement!; I’ve fished with the best! However, last Saturday Captain Scott provided my grandson and I a fishing experience far better than any previous excursions. . Captain Scott mixes safety with fun on his unsinkable 24’ Grady White fishing boat. But more importantly the two most important aspects of a satisfying day of fishing is quality equipment and and knowing where the “BIG ONES” are. Captain Scott provided both with a large quiver of full carbon fiber rods with high end Penn reels. His expensive fish finder was good but we ended up employing old school methods which paid off big time. Thank you Captain Scott can’t wait to fish with you again soon! 10/10 experience, captain was super accomodating with my tight schedule, great vibes, solid boat, and course didnt hurt we caught some fish! He also offers surf lessons! Would use again when in town!
i wanted my 17 year old son and his friend get to experience Yellowtail battle, and we did that more. Scott was patience with them while they learned and by the end they were Pros! Thanks Scott!
My family I took a trip with Captian Scott and we really enjoyed it. He was trying for yellowtail and seen a lot but couldn't hook one, we then proceeded to another spot and all us caught about 5 rock cod each and it was amazing. Thank you, Captain Scott. Will book again.
Captain Scott is awesome! He took us to a few spots and also took is off shore to find bigger fish. We were in the middle of a few dolphins pods and thats alone was amazing. We had a great time.
Captain Scott and his son Finn were a great guide team! Put us on fish and it was a great outing! We caught Yellow Tail, Bullet Tuna, and Yellow Fin Tuna!
Had a great time with Captain Scott out on the water! Had a great morning bite and caught lots of keepers plus a really nice yellowtail!

Our fishing trip with Captain Scott was an absolute joy from start to finish. We celebrated my husband's 89th birthday, and Captain Scott made the day feel truly special. He was wonderfully attentive to everything we needed and wanted, always making sure we were comfortable, engaged and having a great time. his upbeat personality and easy sense of humor made the hours fly by, turning the trip into a lovely, laughter-filled adventure. We caught a lot of bullet tunas, which added even more excitement to the day. Thanks to him and his mate Andy, we got beautiful memories of pure fun on the water.
