Mataura Valley Trout Safaris
Planning your fly fishing adventure in New Zealand just got easier with Mataura Valley Trout Safaris. Join a small team of local guides and explore the legendary trout waters of the southern South Island, surrounded by some of New Zealand’s most spectacular landscapes.
From rugged freestone backcountry rivers and gentle pastureland glides to small, intimate streams, there’s water to suit different fishing styles, abilities, and preferences. These waters are home to big Brown Trout and feisty Rainbow Trout, with stalking, accurate casting, and explosive takes being the name of the game. With a little luck, it won't be long before you hear, “Fish on!”
Trips are walk-and-wade adventures tailored to each angler’s experience, abilities, and goals. Whether you're a seasoned fly fisher looking for a new challenge or discovering New Zealand trout fishing for the first time, your local guide will help you make the most of the conditions and the water you're fishing.
Mataura Valley Trout Safaris caters to individual anglers and small groups. Bring your own gear or, if you're traveling light, quality fly fishing equipment is available to hire.
Lunch, snacks, light refreshments, flies, tippet, and your guide's friendly local advice are included. Complimentary pickup and drop-off from your accommodation are also provided.
Fishing licenses are not included and can be purchased before or on the day of your trip, with assistance available if needed. Equipment hire, helicopter fees, and additional catering or overnight accommodation are available at an extra cost.
New Zealand weather can change quickly, so dress in layers and wear suitable footwear. Bring polarized sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, and bottled water.
