Days Out Fishing Charters offers unique fishing experience in the rich Bay of Islands. These waters are crammed with fish off all shapes and colors, and you will be fishing with the Bay of Islands' only big Snapper and Kingfish Specialist - Skipper Darren Knapping
Whether you're a pro angler or a bit less experienced, Capt. Darren will help you have a time to remember. His trips run year round and often get people the fish of their lifetime. Skipper Darren is a local fisherman. He grew up fishing around these waters and has a deep understanding of the ocean and the rich life beneath the surface. Having served in the New Zealand Navy for a number of years and working in commercial tuna fishing, Darren eventually came to build one of the finest fishing machines in the area.
Days Out is a 2026 custom-built 9mtr Makaira She is powered by twin 250HP Honda engines. The boat can take up to 6 people inshore and up to 4 offshore and it's rigged with Garmin navigational electronics, features a toilet, tuna tubes, a big live well, and ice boxes. She has a full cabin,, plenty of room for fishing, and enough shade for all people onboard. She is a boat build locally fit to weather these waters.
You'll face numerous fish species in the Bay of Islands. Darren is a specialist when it comes to Yellowtail Kingfish and Snapper. His private trips will see you using a variety of techniques, using catch tackle and quality rods and lines. Darren will supply all the gear, tackle, and license. There will be some snacks and drinks on board lunch can be served for an additional cost if requested beforehand.

Captain was very helpful, knowledgeable and obviously loves what he does. Made us all feel comfortable straight off the bat with some good old laughs. We started easing into the whole experience with catching live bait, which was alot of fun in itself.Definitely will be recommending him to all our family and we'll be coming back next year to do it all over again. 10/10 from us, and most of all we caught fish ( not just the live bait) haha. Thanks captain !!! Everyone had a blast !!!!

7 Hr Trip – Kingfish Private/6 PAX on February 12, 2024 • 3 adultsThe trip started with a warm welcome by Darren. His boat is very sturdy, clean and roomy, and best of all it has plenty of shade. It was a warm sunny day so this was very welcome. First we chased our live bait - a fun part of the trip. We then roamed around some of Darren’s known spots and ended up with 3 lovely kingfish and one snapper. This was what we were after so we were happy! Darren arranged smoking of the biggest two and filleted the other one for us. Darren was very attentive and encouraged us to land our own fish.

The 3 kids got to catch the live bait then we all had plenty of opportunity to catch Snapper and Kingfish and took home a very good feed! We never had to bait a line or remove a fish. They did all the hard work. All we had to do was take food and drinks and reel the fish in! Great day on the ocean. Thank you.
