Weldon, North Carolina, stands as the undisputed Rockfish Capital of the World, drawing anglers globally for its legendary spring striped bass runs on the Roanoke River. Each April through May, tens of thousands of hard-fighting rockfish—many exceeding 25 pounds—migrate upstream to spawn, creating unparalleled fishing action. Expect explosive topwater strikes and relentless battles, with seasoned guides often delivering 100+ fish days using live threadfin shad, cut bait, or Fluke jigs.
Beyond striped bass, Weldon's waters teem with seasonal opportunities. Hickory shad flood the river from late February through early April, offering fast-paced light-tackle action near creek mouths and accessible shorelines. Year-round, trophy catfish and largemouth bass add diversity to charters, ensuring thrilling battles regardless of the season. The Roanoke's unique fall-line geography concentrates fish in dynamic holes and runs, making both boat and bank fishing productive.
Expert-led Weldon fishing charters cater to all skill levels, providing inclusive adventures equipped with premium gear and tailored techniques. Families appreciate wheelchair-accessible boats and child-friendly policies, while veterans praise the efficiency of drift fishing and jigging tactics perfected by local captains. Whether targeting a personal-best striper or enjoying the river's biodiverse ecosystem, Weldon delivers a bucket-list angling experience woven into North Carolina's rich fishing heritage.
