Cape Town's tuna fishery is one of the best in the world, and catches are consistently good from October through June. The trip from Hout Bay Harbour can take anywhere from 1–2 hours, depending on the time of year. Yellowfin and Longfin are the most common tuna species in the Cape, with occasional catches of Bigeye, Bluefin, Dorado (Mahi) and Yellowtail. Although not very common, during the warmer months, from mid-December to March, prized catches such as Blue, Black and Striped Marlin can be caught.
