Poland, Maine, nestled in the heart of Androscoggin County, is a premier freshwater fishing destination renowned for its crystal-clear lakes and diverse aquatic ecosystems. Surrounded by the Range Ponds system—Upper, Middle, and Lower—this region offers exceptional angling opportunities year-round. These interconnected waters teem with lake trout, brook trout, brown trout, and rainbow trout, alongside robust populations of smallmouth and largemouth bass, white perch, and pickerel.
Upper Range Pond, with its 38-foot depths, serves as a prime habitat for trophy lake trout and bass, while Middle Range Pond's 66-foot troughs provide ideal cold-water refuges for trout. Ice fishing enthusiasts thrive here during winter months, targeting perch and smelt beneath the frozen surface. Summer months shift the focus to fly fishing and bass expeditions across the ponds' rocky shores and marshy inlets.
Guided experiences elevate Poland's angling appeal, with expert-led outings ranging from serene fly-fishing trips to family-friendly bass adventures. The area's proximity to Sebago Lake—a June hotspot for smallmouth bass—further enriches the fishing calendar. Whether drifting through the Upper Range Pond's wooded coves or casting from the shores of Sabbathday Lake, Poland delivers unforgettable freshwater diversity in Maine's unspoiled wilderness.
